On a serious note, Mazda is currently leading in the field of fuel efficient engines and while the RX concept was recently revealed and oh so fine looking, they might be reluctant to produce anothe rotary engine that would lover the corporate average fuel economy. It was a niche engine to begin with. Personally I would love for it to make a return before all cars go  electric or afterwards when it would not affect corporate average? Materials technology is developing rapidly, exotic materials are becoming cheaper quickly and complicated boosting systems would bring it to the current age.  Look at BMW, everybody ditched the straight 6 and now they are producing a diesel engine of 3 liter displacement with 4 turbos and almost 400hp and 1000Nm of torque while meeting euro emissions! A type of engine that in the 80s was named as a coal burner

No need to ditch the idea just yet. There are efficient wankel designed power platform, but only in the form of an small backpack versions.

Hopefully it will spring a more life size version and with a bit more power than just 3kw's.

Thoughts?

That's an interesting gadget for sure. Robots powered by jet fuel. Love it.
