Global Announcement
Aug 24th, 2007 at 1:50am

We have two announcements to make to all members.

1. We will soon be changing the rule about signature image size limits. We currently allow a signature image up to a maximum of 800(W) x 160(H) pixels. This limit will be reduced to a maximum of 760 x 120 pixels in the near future. There will be another global announcement in the near future to set a deadline for signatures to be removed or replaced with a suitably-sized image. When the deadline is reached we will allow a few weeks grace period before global moderators begin to remove signature images that exceed the new size limits.
Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated. If possible, please adhere to the new size limit as soon as you can, starting right now if you wish.

Some members have additional text or buttons in their signatures and we understand the desire to include these elements. Please keep them to a minimum and use small button images and text only. We are trying to streamline the forums a little and make them a bit more "browseable". The new signature size limits still allow plenty of room for artistic expression and the display of information. We look forward to seeing all the creative new signature images from members in the near future.

2. Soon we will be running a full backup of the entire LFS Torque site and forum, and all associated files. We request that members help this process by:
a) being patient when it happens, the forum and site may be unavailable for an hour or so. A short warning will be given. The forum will still be online but you won't be able to post during the backup process.
b) please visit your in-boxes and out-boxes and delete any messages which you do not need to keep. Although messages account for very little storage space, they are very numerous and they slow down the data transfer process quite a lot. Less forum files = a smoother backup with less down time. Please assist us by cleaning out any unwanted messages.
This backup and cleanup precedes an expected forum software upgrade in the near future. The next upgrade promises to provide some new features, refinement of some older features, and even more improved security, especially against spam bots (not that the current version doesn't do a great job of keeping the spam to a minimum).

Thanks
Well over 1000 genuine members have joined this forum since it began. We thank you all for your interest, even if it were only fleeting, and we hope many more of you will continue to visit and contribute to our community in a positive way.
In recent months there has been a surge of new people coming into the LFS community and we are seeing steady growth in all areas of the sim. Many of the newcomers represent the younger demographic and may seem less serious or dedicated than those who have "earned their stripes", so to speak. Please exercise patience with new members, especially the more youthful of them. Most of them can turn out to be good racers or drifters and valuable community members if we are tolerant of their inexperience and limited knowledge, while being willing to educate and encourage them and willing to listen patiently and remember that we all were once new to Live For Speed.

A special welcome to newcomers to Live For Speed. By now you might have noticed that this sim is a far cry from the comfortable bling and buzz of your favourite arcade racing games. Please understand that the sim racing community is generally intolerant of unrealistic or irrelevant contributions to their discussions. A LFS community member is usually a slightly more serious opponent that you will encounter in mere racing games. He may seem cocky or arrogant at first, but once you embrace LFS you will see why. This is no cakewalk, no easy driving game with flashy effects. It's you, your controller, and LFS physics all the way. Your mistakes are real mistakes, your victories are worth winning and well deserved. Once you enter the world of LFS you can kiss the arcade racing genre goodbye.
Get yourself a force feedback analogue steering wheel and pedals, you must do this, it is essential. Throw yourself in the deep end and start racing. Try to fit in with the community, feel your way, learn about the sim, make friends.

See you all on LFS Torque, your funky alternative to blue and white mediocrity.

I have changed the limits to
760 x 120
, I previously said 780 x 120 but changed my mind. If you have already made a sig that is 780 wide we won't hassle you about it.

The date for changeover to the new limits is October 1st. That's Monday. Please be patient with members who are unaware of the changes but please encourage them politely to adhere to the new limits.

Thank you.

Thanks to all who have changed their signature images to meet our new size requirements. For those who haven't yet complied, expect your signature image to be deleted without warning any day soon.
