New simulator on the way: Assetto Corsa
Nov 25th, 2012 at 10:11am

Hi,

Didn't see a topic for this new game/simulator which I think there should be. Maybe most of you have missed it, just like me til 30 minutes ago Smiley Hopefully I can bring you some good news then, as I think we're in for a treat with this one!

The game is called Assetto Corsa, created by KUNOS Simulazioni, and I think this is what I've always been waiting for. A fresh simulator for the PC platform which has nice graphics, is modable and has some new modern solutions (for example you can use a mobile phone or tablet to display telemetry and also navigate the menus). It also seem to have a nice feel which, in my opinon, is what it's all about in the end.
Some licensed cars/tracks from the beginning as well!

It's also out of the box a bit drifting oriented as there's a built in drifting mode/challenge, and it's NOT a mode that changes physics etc (thank god)!

So, a simulator that isn't "against" drifting, which also is good looking AND modable?! Think of the possibilities Cheesy

Here's a link to an interview made by InsideSimRacing with one of the developers at Gamescom 2012: http://youtu.be/FkyTDugp7kw

And here's some high resolution pics of the Pagani Zonda R which will be included in the game: http://www.racedepartment.com/2012/11/assetto-corsa-pagani-zonda-r-in-game-unedi...

The official home page: http://www.assettocorsa.net/?lang=en

I saw on the LFS Forums that Nsys Dopii tried the simulator in the drifting mode at that Gamescom exhibition and he seem to be quite impressed by it!

I also saw that Toni has bought some new sim racing equipment prior to the release of this game which actually is what got me looking this game up. I thought that if Toni is looking forward to it, it's worth a look Smiley

What do you guys think? I'm really, really looking forward to this one!

This might be the game changer I thought S3 would/could be...

Edit: Haven't found anything "bad" with this game so far. I tend to believe that I'm missing a huge flaw but I don't know, they actually seem to do everything right! To add to above information, the price will be fixed so no subscription which also is good news.

One thing I haven't seen any comments on yet is the netcode which could ruin the whole thing (or atleast 50-75% of it in my opinion).
If I remember correctly, the netcode in nK Pro wasn't good. In fact it was so bad I think that it actually is what kept it from being one of the best simulators out there. The feel of the cars was great though if I'm not mistaken (it's been a couple of years now since I tried nK Pro).

Grin

Yeah, decided to get T500+TH8 for AC when details started emerging. Can't wait to go sideways in the M3 at nordschleife. This might be the sim of sims we've all been waiting for.

Sounds promising!

Any idea about wheel support?

Do i need a top of the line wheel to be able to play this or will any plug&play wheel do?

Two new movies of the sim:

Formula ACI CSAI Abarth a Imola: http://youtu.be/xmxSZ798uG4

La Pagani Zonda a Monza: http://youtu.be/4pumwVxUMds

Can't wait for it to be released although it's not looking that good in terms for a full version this year, I think. I do hope I'm wrong though...

Didn't really comment it myself yesterday but... I watched the video of the Formula Abarth and thought, yes, this is nice. Then I watched the Pagani Zonda video... My god! Looks awesome and in fact, quite close to reality!
Also noticed that you actually seem to be in need to steer in this sim. Haven't really seen/noticed that like this in other sims.

Another new video - la Lotus 49 a Imola: http://youtu.be/DqJo6FlRR70

Don't like the shifting animation though. Or well, the shifting animation itself is quite nice but I don't like them overall. Maybe it's just me, but I think it looks weird since when I've actually shifted, the virtual driver is starting his shift motion - releasing the wheel, pulling the gear lever, releasing it and grabbing the wheel again. All this is done after I've actually changed gear.

However, they have confirmed that the driver can be hidden, hopefully along with the steering wheel but atleast the driver is confirmed from what I've read.

Also a development update which I haven't read yet. Although already excited to do so later as there's quite a lot of text which can't be not interesting Tongue

Yeah, shifting animations are impossible to do correctly, they will always seem to occur after the fact. No sim has ever gotten that right.

Of course. Smiley I've seen in some game that the driver placed his hand on the gear lever right before the RPM goes into the redline. That is in my opinion the best solution. I guess that is as good as it gets. I still prefer to not have the driver/wheel visible though. Problem solved Tongue

Two new videos have been posted by the developers, and they look amazing in my view:

Limited tech demo should be out this month, full release early 2013, if all goes to plan.

Here's a link to an interview with Jon Denton who wrote the development update on Ravsim I posted earlier. Some pictures as well that I think are new. Anyway, they can be watched again and again as they look really good.

It's after the bit about a virtual airshow which almost deserves a topic of it's own! Looks awesome! It will be live streamed today at http://www.virtual-airshows.com/ where there also is a schedule for the day.

Been thinking about an upgrade of my computer and I've now decided that it needs to be done prior to the release of this game. Looks insanely good in my opinion!
